GOD, weird. So a while back I called Wicked Lasers’ Spyder III a “real life lightsabre“. (It wasn’t quite that cool in practice). LucasFilm took issue and threw a fit. Here’s the whole saga (and ME) immortalised in Taiwanese CGI.
When we heard about Wicked Lasers’ Spyder III Pro Arctic laser, an ultra powerful portable laser with a lightsabre-esque design selling for only $US200, it almost seemed too good to be true. Turns out it might have been.
We now know that the crazy-powerful Spyder III Arctic laser actually emits a visible, fearsome blue beam, just like a real lightsabre. George Lucas’ lawyers saw this thing and fired off a cease and desist faster than Han shot Greedo.
