Tent Leeches Solar Power While Campers Leech Your Wi-Fi

3:40AM Mark Wilson | Even if this tent were just a tent, it’s fashionable enough to seriously covet. But because it’s a concept with ubertech, the tent produces enough electricity to power a small town and connects to the internet wirelessly. More »

Orange iGPS360 Brings GPS to Old iPhones

3:00AM Mark Wilson | Are you stubbornly holding on to your first gen iPhone, using its energy efficient Wi-Fi triangulation to find your way? Foolishness! The iGPS360 is a $US75 dongle that brings full GPS to your jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch. Available for preorder now, there are 1000 units up for grabs and we bet they’d be a ton of fun for various homebrew applications. For some reason the iGPS shop link is currently down, but check Orange’s site later if you’re interested. Oh, and you can find the iControlPad on there, too. [Orange via iPhone GPS] More »

Orange Pulls BlackBerry Bold Over Quality Concerns

7:26AM Sean Fallon | According to a leaked memo obtained by Mobile Tech Addicts, UK based mobile phone carrier Orange have pulled the BlackBerry Bold off of their shelves temporarily citing quality issues with the device. What specific issues they are referring to are unknown, but Orange claims they are awaiting solutions from RIM and plan to have the device back on shelves in “a couple of weeks.” As you probably already know, the US debut of the Bold has been pushed back repeatedly—perhaps these issues have something to do with the delay over here as well. Actors Paid To Stand in iPhone Line by Orange in Poland

10:40AM Jason Chen | A spokesman for Orange in Poland unabashedly proclaimed that they “have these fake queues at front of 20 stores around the country to drum up interest in the iPhone.” An interesting technique to be sure, we’re just wondering if these actors will give up their places when it comes time to actually buy the phone, or if they’re going to actually go through and get an iPhone (maybe give them out for free after?). It’s not something we would have done, and it would have probably worked had the spokespeople not acknowledged it so openly. “Why yes, that is a sock in my pants. Why do you ask? “[Reuters] More »

Apples or Oranges? This Smart Scale Can Tell the Difference

8:00AM Jack Loftus | I happen to love the automated check out lines at the supermarket, but I hate the five or six seconds of my day that are wasted there when I have to manually input the name of the produce I’m weighing on the scale. Lucky for me, and for other lazy people who absolutely have to have those five seconds back, there’s a new development in automated check out scales that could revolutionise the supermarket industry. Here’s a hint: It’s like facial recognition, but for fruit! More »

Dance Charge Prototype Powers Phones By Your Furious Robot Moves

3:45AM Jason Chen | Orange, a mobile phone provider in the UK, has just developed a couple prototypes of this Dance Charge mobile phone charger. You wrap this thing around your arm while you’re dancing and your kinetic energy will translate into electricity to power your phone. It’s like those flashlights that you have to shake before use, but much, much nerdier. Combine this with the fictional breast charger and you’ll be able to power the entire DJ booth with just your flailing limbs. How they got that one chubby doctor from Grey’s Anatomy to pose for promo pics is anyone’s guess. [Reg Hardware via Tech Digest] More »

HTC Launches the Diamond—Small and Very iPhone-esque

9:40PM Addy Dugdale | So, this is the Touch Diamond. It’s small, slim, “a holistic experience,” according to Horace Luke, HTC’s Chief Innovations Officer, and “just like your life.” Out in Europe and Asia next month, we should get our hands on it later on this year, and it’s the closest thing so far to an iPhone that hasn’t come out of Cupertino. Not surprising, since Luke and his team wanted the design to be worthy of MoMA. I’m just not sure about the diamond design on the back. Here is a gallery, the specs and some of the choice quotes from the presentation: More »

2Juicy Orange Squeezer Too Rockin’ For One Hand

12:00AM Addy Dugdale | Anyone who likes their, um, oranges, um, freshly-squeezed by hand in the morning should, perhaps, think about buying 2Juicy, a manual juicer from SuckUK. Anyone who doesn’t should stick with their Braun automatic one—then at least you’ll have one hand free for whatever else you like to do when you’re squeezing oranges. [SuckUK] More »
