I don’t know about you guys, but all this talk about Ice Cream Sandwiches is making me mighty hungry for an Android update. The problem is that the actual updates have been rarer than vegetables in Google’s codename standards. Last night LG promised all that’s about to change – *cue excited drumroll* – when the company announces when it will upgrade a few of its phones to ICS some time next month. (*queue sad trombone*)
The Optimus 3D didn’t quite take the crown in our test of 3D-capable Android handsets, but it’s still a solid contender. MobileCiti is selling an unlocked Optimus 3D for $409 outright if you’re keen. [Mobileciti via Ozbargain]
LG’s Optimus 3D is a nice enough phone, but just about every reviewer who’s had hands on time with it — including myself — has lamented the fact that the beyond taking 3D photos, the 3D display wasn’t good for much due to a critical lack of applications. LG’s addressing that shortcoming and is due to announce a 2D to 3D conversion engine for Android games.
You might have guessed that LG’s Optimus 3D smartphone would come bearing a steep price tag, but did you imagine it would be in the region of $US800? Dual-core processors and 3D cameras don’t come cheap, which is why UK online retailer Expansys has listed a £514.99 ($US835) price for it. Supposedly it hits shelves on April 25. LG’s Optimus 3D smartphone is going to be one of the first truly convenient (and connected) 3D video cameras. But sharing that 3D content was always going to be a tough ask without an online portal to store your 3D videos of cats. Luckily, LG and YouTube have just announced that the world’s largest online video company is going 3D.
Shay got the down low on LG’s plans to release a smartphone with glasses-less 3D in the middle of this year, and while details are still scarce, LG has confirmed that they’ll be showing off this 3D phone at Mobile World Congress this month.
