Student Forced To Pay $US675,000 To RIAA For Sharing 30 Songs

8:00AM Dan Nosowitz | Joel Tenenbaum admitted to sharing 30 songs with Kazaa back in 2004 (Kazaa! So quaint!) and was originally fined $US150,000 per song. He worked that down to “only” $US22,500 per song, but that’s still $US675,000 in total. More »

Jammie Thomas Appealing RIAA Trial Judgment, Keeping Up Her MySpace Blog

3:56AM Adam Frucci | Last week, a jury that we are not a fan of awarded the RIAA $222,000 for 24 songs shared via Kazaa. The first RIAA lawsuit brought to trial, it sets a pretty lousy precedent and it’s seen as a big ol’ victory for the freedom-haters that rep the major labels. Jammie Thomas, the woman who lost the court battle, isn’t done fighting yet, however: she’s gonna appeal the decision. More »
