iView uses Flash. The iPad doesn’t support Flash. It would seem that iView fans wanting to watch VOD on their new iPad have hit a wall. Not so, as Gus over at Lifehacker has pointed out – the ABC has confirmed it’s working on a solution for VOD-hungry Apple tablet fans…
Unmetered VOD content is the way of the future, and according to Andrew Colley at the Australian, the best VOD service in Australia at the moment is in discussions with Telstra to get iView unmetered on Telstra’s upcoming T-Box PVR.
The announcement earlier today that the ABC are launching iView for Bravia TVs and certain internet enabled Sony Blu-ray players was marred by one little bit of disappointment – that the app version would be metered by all ISPs, including the ones who offer unmetered iView browser viewing. The iView implementation on the PS3 kinda sucks. Not because it’s bad, but because it’s based in the browser… Which kinda sucks. The ABC just sent through some of the early figures from their iView partnership with Sony on the Playstation 3, and it’s pretty mind-blowing… During the first two weeks, they had over 110,000 visits to the service from the PS3.
This morning, Sony had a big launch for their new PlayTV device (more on that later today) and an official launch for the iView service. The good news is that all those early issues we have with iView on the PS3 are going to get better.
If any of you were spending part of your Sunday playing with you PS3, you may have noticed that there was a new option in the XMB for television, with the ABC iView logo sitting front and centre. That’s right – you can now access iView through the PS3.
