If there was one gadget that I’d argue is the cornerstone of my home theatre setup, it’s not my 50-inch plasma or my AV receiver. It’s my Logitech Harmony Universal remote control. But after a week away, I came back to discover something horrific – my Harmony has disappeared!
Back in May when Logitech released the Harmony 600 on unwitting Australians everywhere, they promised that their colour-screen Harmony 650 would be following shortly. What we didn’t realise then was that the term “shortly” is a sliding scale, as the 650 has just hit Dick Smith stores, four months later.
Logitech’s Harmony remotes are among the most acclaimed, most popular programmable remotes in the industry. But in a forward-looking move, Logitech is turning Harmony into a free iPhone/iPod/Android app to work with their Google TV companion box.
Back in March, Logitech announced a couple of new Harmony remotes, the 600 and the 650, which both cost less than $US100. Well, the 600 has just been announced for Australia, and in an effort Futurama’s Hermes would be proud of, they’ve managed to limbo under the $100 price point here too.
It’s taken a few months, but the Australian arm of Logitech has finally announced the Australian availability of their 700 and 900 Harmony universal remotes. And they’ve been a little heavy handed on the Australian gadget tax as well…
