This is amazing. An enthusiastic overclocker by the handle of “Hicookie” has taken the Intel Core i7 3930K processor and cranked it up past 5.6GHz using a Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3 motherboard. For stat fans, that’s the first motherboard to hit a 57x multiplier. More »
Gigabyte’s been listening to all of the iPhone syncing issues from motherboard owners using Intel’s P55 chipset. They’ve put out a beta BIOS that addresses the problem. Unfortunately, that doesn’t help all the Asus and MSI users who are having the same troubles, but hopefully now that Gigabyte has set an example the others will follow. More »
Users on Apple’s discussion board have been experiencing issues with their PCs locking out iPhones when using Windows 7 with the Intel P55 USB chipset. It’s a pretty specific combo that you’re probably not running, so don’t panic. More »

A release date and price has been set for UMPC contender Gigabyte’s MID M528, a diminutive portable computer with a slide out keyboard, according to the folks over at UMPC Portal. A product page on Gigabyte’s site put the cost at US$689 and availability on Sept. 17. The page then disappeared, but not before intrepid internet surfers could get a nice screen grab.
We’ll probably hear finalised details tomorrow when it’s officially unveiled at Computex tomorrow, but here’s the first shot of the Gigabyte M912. An 8.9″ convertable touchscreen laptop packing an Atom processor, it’s supposed to be another promising entrant to the lightweight, budget laptop ring. Hopefully we’ll know just how budget Gigabyte means within the week. [engadget China via engadget]
It took a year for Giga-Byte to follow in HTC’s footsteps, but the upcoming GSmart Windows Mobile smartphones will have a brand new UI on top of the standard WinMo affair. The interface is called “Smart Touch,” and will be more finger-friendly—more oriented toward gestures and finger-navigation—lending itself to launching your commonly used programs directly from the home screen. The Chinese version of this has been available since April, but suffers from some incompatibility issues that most likely won’t be in the European release version coming sometime after May. Just unveiled at CeBit, Gigabyte’s M700 UMPC comes with a surprising 2 GB RAM. In addition to its hefty memory and bright design, the M700 manages to pack in a 7-inch, 1024×600 touchscreen and a 1.2 GHz processor. It also has Windows Vista Home Premium. Details on pricing and release are hush hush at this point. [Ubergizmo]
When Gigabyte released their first UMPC, the U60, there was plenty to like, including the split keyboard. With the M704, Gigabyte is essentially releasing a refreshed U60 with a new look, a slightly bigger screen and a beefed-up processor. The second-gen UMPC will have a 1.2 GHz VIA processor, 768 MB of RAM, 40-60 GB HDD, a 7″ screen and a three-hour battery life. Availability and pricing for the M704 is still hazy at this point, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it priced in the same range as the U60. [Crave] More »
