Casio’s W63CA Exilim, World First 8.1-Megapixel Cameraphone Hits Japan
9:06PM Kit Eaton | For some reason, the W63CA mobile phone hit the FCC over on this side of the Pacific in August, but now it’s officially hit the stores in Japan. It’s got a couple of claimed world’s firsts, apparently: the world’s first 8.1 megapixel cameraphone, and the first with a 3.1-inch 480 Ă— 800 pixels organic EL display. And it’s really trying hard to earn the cameraphone name, since it’s got a new Exilim image engine, 6-axis vibration compensation, a 28mm-equivalent lens and face recognition, and can also shoot 30fps VGA video. There’s Bluetooth, microSD memory, and a Japanese-English translator in the phone part. But unless Casio chooses to replace the CDMA guts of this machine with a more US-friendly version, it’s likely to remain in Japan. [Fareastgizmos] More »

Exilim EX-FH20: The Next Casio Slo-Mo Shooting Camera
6:41PM Kit Eaton | Back in March we raved about Casio’s EX-F1, and it’s just six months later and now Casio’s got another super-fast frame rate camera for us: the EX-F20. It’s a smaller and lighter beast than its predecessor, but it has 9.1-megapixels, can still shoot ultra-high-speed bursts at 40 fps and high speed movies at “up to 1,000 fps” and has a 20x optical zoom, anti-shake, night-scene mode and standard 720p video option. It’s intended to appeal to a broader bunch of users, rather than just camera enthusiasts, so it’s a little simpler than the EX-1, with all the shooting modes on a single dial. It’ll be available in black in stores from October for US$600. Press release below. galleryPost('ex-fh20', 3, ''); More »

Casio Exilim W63CA 8-Megapixel Super Japanese Camera Phone Hits FCC For Some Reason
4:50AM Jason Chen | The super Japanese Exilim W63CA mobile phone has hit the FCC, which comes with a flip body and an 8-megapixel camera. Casio’s taking the same tactic Sony Ericsson does with their Cyber-shot mobile phones and placing a camera brand on a high-end camera phone, hopefully to advance both the phone and the camera brand in the US. Engadget says the phone should have an 800×480 pixel screen, but chances are it’s not going to actually come here on any provider—most likely it’s being certified as to not give Americans radiation poisoning when the Japanese come here on vacation. Casio Adds to Exilim Digicam Range: Z300, Z250 and Z85
2:15AM Kit Eaton | Casio’s just added three new cams to its range of Exilims: The EX-Z300 and EX-Z250 both have the new Exilim Engine 3.0 processor inside, which should make them faster and suffer less noise than previous cams creating “”beautiful imagery” according to Casio. The Z300 has a 1/2.3-inch 10-megapixel CCD and wide-angle zoom lens, while the Z250 has a smaller 1/2.5-inch CCD with just 9-megapixels. Though the Z85 lacks the new engine, it’s more intended for beginner “point and shoot” photographers with a very pared-down “easy” mode, but it’s still got 9-megapixels and a ten-person face recognition mode. All three will be out in October for US$350 for the Z300, US$250 for the Z250 and US$180 for the Z85. Press release below. More »
