There’s no shortage of scientific research pointing to exercise being good for you, but if you’re just trying to lose weight you probably want all the help you can get. Now, research suggests that caffeine activates the same fat-busting genes as an hour’s exercise. Somebody, pass the espresso.

Coffee in the US has a bad rep, but if you walk into a good coffee shop that serves espresso, you will likely see a machine from one of these companies sitting on the bar: La Marzocco, Synesso or just maybe, Slayer. They say nothing in life is truly free, and that’s perfectly demonstrated in this experimental coffee shop in Helsinki. The coffee is technically gratis, except for the cost of having to enjoy it in a setting controlled by the internet.
I think the coffee that comes out of single-serving coffee pod machines is not very good. But, putting that aside, it’s obscenely expensive, as Oliver Strand points out in the New York Times:

OK, it’s official: Pourover coffee is over, thanks to Bodum’s new pourover machine. Just kidding. Sort of. But Bodum’s new Bistro Pourover is one supremely interesting home coffee device.
A new press pot design that recently surpassed its $US15,000 Kickstarter funding goal by $US2K could solve all our gritty, muddy, dirty, French press problems.
When I spied this French press, AKA press pot, coffee press, coffee plunger, cafetiere or сafetière à piston (in France), my heart went a-flutter. I think it’s so pretty.
