$320 Million Of Cheese Destroyed In Italian Earthquake

On Sunday, Northern Italy was rocked by a magnitude-6.0 earthquake. In the process, many cheese factories in the region suffered damage — and it is estimated that over 300,000 wheels of cheese, thought to be worth at least $US320 million, have been destroyed.

This Building Looks Inspired By Cheese

OK—maybe it doesn’t look like actual cheese, but this design centre in France (dubbed “The Orange Cube”) looks like the type of cheese that cartoon mice dream about and weirdos in Wisconsin wear on their heads. In reality, the building was designed by Jakob + Macfarlane Architects to revitalize the harbor districtin the city of Lyon. There’s a bunch of architectural jibbajabba explaining why the holes, geometric patterns and colour were chosen (light and airflow, the movement of the river, and a historical paint used in harbors, respectively), but all I see is cheese.
