Video: A lot of the TV spots and trailers we’ve seen for Black Panther so far have included one lavish sequence in particular: T’Challa gracefully leaping, mid-chase, off a flipping car. It looks very cool, and the first clip from the movie expands on it, showing us a few new tricks the Black Panther has up his sleeve.
The sequence made its debut on yesterday’s episode of Ellen, as part of an interview with Chadwick Boseman. Check out the full interview and clip below:
So yes, it turns out T’Challa’s fancy move comes courtesy of his upgraded suit in the movie, which is packed with purple-glowing Wakandan tech, thanks to T’Challa’s scientist sister, Shuri (Letitia Wright). As she explains mid-chase, the new suit can absorb kinetic energy from gunfire and other attacks against T’Challa, which he can then release in one big pulse. Handy for, say, wrecking the car of some criminals you’re hunting down.
The clip is cool, but stick around after that for Boseman’s thoughts on the pressure he and the rest of the cast felt while filming Black Panther, as well as his reaction to his very own action figure, complete with very flattering physique and a likeness that, according to Boseman himself, looks a little bit more like Jesse Williams than it does him. Oh dear.
