Today in New York, 20th Century Fox showcased a few of its big genre movies that are currently in production. The one seemingly getting the most buzz is the third Wolverine film, Logan.
We’ll have full write-ups of all the footage (which also included War for the Planet of the Apes and Alien: Covenant) soon, but for now, here are some very, very positive reactions to the first 40 minutes of Logan. No spoilers.
First up, a few tweets from our reporter who was in the room.
The first forty minutes of Logan was amazing. Professor X does curse a lot, but his oldness and infirmity is tragic.

I was not prepared to feel as much for how weak he is now and how almost senile.

The girl playing Lauren (AKA X-23) is a badass. She has a fight that you won’t believe someone that young can do. And she did it herself!

The whole thing has a dystopia-western vibe, all southwestern and sun-bleached. It’s really a different kind of X-Men film.

Boyd Holbrook is having a blast playing Donald Pierce, making the villain the only person not miserable in the Logan future.

If these are the last x-performances of Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman, then at least they’ve gone out on a huge high note.

Normally, I like a little more exuberance in these movies, but the wariness and cynicism of everyone really works in Logan.

Also, there are a number of things that fans will love to pick out of the movie. Pay attention to details.

Next up, we went around Twitter to find reactions from writers from a multitude of other sites.
Just saw 40 minutes of LOGAN. VERY violent. Very much rated R. Logan and Xavier are old and sad. It’s depressing. I liked it.

Just saw first act of #Logan. Wait til you guys meet Laura (X-23) — she steals every scene she is in.
— Angie J. Han (@ajhan) December 8, 2016
If you have doubts about how X23 will be in #Logan you can rest easy. She is awesome and vicious. #Logan @joblocom

Watched first act of @WolverineMovie . It FINALLY gets the vicious, feral animal that is Wolverine. Violent and brutal and really cool!

I loved every second of what we saw. It’s different, it’s brutal, and the girl, man. It’s all about that little girl. https://t.co/qBwIDnRNMR

Holy shit. Just watched the first 40 minutes of #Logan. If you loved #deadpool, you will go nuts with this and there’s no comedy!
— Wilson Morales (@blackfilm) December 8, 2016
#Logan just stole the show. Incredible.
— Leon Brill (@LeonBrill) December 8, 2016
Just saw the first act of #Logan, super violent and bloody. Dug it. Get stoked to see Laura totally steal the spotlight from Jackman.

There were a few takes that were less than positive, but there may be more Wolverine movies than there were negative reviews. Suffice to say, if the next hour of Logan lives up to this first 40 minutes, we could be in for something special come March 2.
That’s when Logan, directed by James Mangold, starring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and Dafne Keen (as Laura/X-23), opens.
