Android 7.1.1 Coming To The Nexus 6P Early December

It appears Google will be giving some Android love to its previous generation devices, starting with the Nexus 6P, with Vodafone planning an early December rollout for version 7.1.1 of the mobile operating system.

A new FAQ on Vodafone’s website provides details on the rollout, which will begin on December 6 with a randomised deployment on 10,000 devices, over the course of three days.

The 650MB patch will be for Nexus 6P phones only, though Ausdroid’s Scott Plowman is of the opinion the Nexus 5X “will receive the update … at the same time”, if rumours are to be believed

Here’s the full itinerary for the rollout:

Day 1-3: 10,000 phones are selected at random to be eligible for the update, users are either alerted via FOTA Push Message or must check manually for the update
Day 4-13: an additional 10% of the remaining pool are selected per day and users must check manually for the update
Day 14: All devices are eligible for the update

So for some, it could still be a two-week wait after the update goes live on December 6. Hey, at least you’ll know it’s on its way and can do whatever backing up / maintenance beforehand.
