Redditors Gift Trump Up To $700 In Worthless Reddit Gold During His AMA

When you have an important guest over to your home, it’s good etiquette to give them a gift to show them your gratitude. Even though redditors don’t have the reputation for being the nicest people online, they apparently have good manners. During his AMA yesterday, Donald Trump was gifted hundreds and hundreds of dollars of useless Reddit gold, also known as gilding, presumably as token of alt-right redditors’ appreciation for the massive-handed Republican nominee.

Reddit gold is a membership program through which Reddit earns revenue. Redditors can pay $US3.99 ($5)/month or $US29.99 ($40)/year to get special features on the site, like no ads, custom themes and avatars and the ability to create Reddit “secret societies”.

According to Reddit, a single gild costs $US3.99 ($5), although you can buy “creddits” in bulk for cheaper. If you buy 36 creddits at a time, they even out to about $US2.50 ($3) a pop.

Trump fans did not hold back during the AMA. On the initial post alone, redditors gifted Trump with 106 months of Reddit gold (as of 28 July 2016 at 11:50AM AEST).

Combined with what was gilded to him on the other posts in the AMA, Trump was gifted 134 months — which is over 11 years — of Reddit gold, meaning redditors spent between $US335 ($447) and $US534.66 ($714) total on the event.

Meanwhile, I have donated a fat sum of $0 to Fiorina, Jeb, Rubio, Cruz, Trump, Chafee, O’Malley, Bernie and Hillary combined.
