Peabody Awards Recognise Jessica Jones, Mr Robot And The Leftovers As Damn Good Shows

We’re living in a golden age of television, both at large and within the scope of genre TV. And apparently the Peabody Awards agree. This year the prestigious committee has given three of its Entertainment awards to three of our favourite shows of the last year: Mr Robot, The Leftovers and Jessica Jones.

Awarded to shows for excellence in broadcasting, the Peabody Awards are some of the biggest awards in American media, so it’s pretty cool to see genre shows like these get nods. Jessica Jones was praised by the Peabody Awards Board for asking “unpopular questions about power and consent, while constructing vivid and compelling characters”, while The Leftovers was lauded for being a “challenging, deeply philosophical, boldly imagined drama”. (They didn’t really explain why last year’s hacker thriller and surprise hit Mr Robot was so fascinatingly brilliant, unfortunately, but it was, so good deal all around!)

Other winners included Netflix original movie Beast of No Nation, Aziz Asari’s excellent comedy TV series Master of None and Amazon’s Transparent — you can check out a video of the full list of winners above.
