Video: We’ve seen tiny little bits of Hideki Anno and Shinji Higuchi’s Shin Godzilla (AKA Godzilla Resurgence) — including the briefest glimpses of the latest iteration of the King of Monsters himself. But now we’ve got our first trailer for the movie, and wow, does this look awesome.
There’s no dialogue or story information here — just some sweeping orchestral music, shots of concerned Japanese officials, screaming civilians and the largest, freakiest-looking incarnation of Godzilla ever brought to screen. Check it out!
While we don’t know a lot about Shin Godzilla, this honestly looks great so far. Godzilla himself looks all gnarled and creepy, and it’s surprisingly effective. Sure, we have the Western Godzilla reboot and its upcoming sequel, but the first Toho-made Godzilla film in over a decade is too intriguing not to be exciting.
Shin Godzilla is expected to hit Japanese theatres this winter, then reach Western shores as Godzilla Resurgence later this year.
