In a Reddit AMA, Android and Chrome UX director Glen Murphy has explained that his team is working on some ways to make Android more productive — including split-screen multi-tasking.
Taking to Reddit, Murphy explained that Google is working on the feature that’s appeared on Windows tablets since 2012 and finally made it to iOS this year:
“There are many things, like multi-window, that we’ve been spending a lot of time on — hopefully we can share more about this soon… We’re working on lots of things right now for N that, of course, we wish we had, you know, yesterday… But we’d spoil the surprise of N if we shared all of them. Split screen is in the works!”
Elsewhere, he also explained that Google is keen to make the Android tablet app line-up stronger. “We’re spending a lot of time working with developers to get better and more awesome tablet apps,” he explained. “But it is definitely a chicken-egg problem.”
Better apps and stronger multi-tasking would certainly go a long way to making the likes of Google’s new Pixel C tablet a more productive device. Let’s wait and see.
