We usually don’t think of shipping containers as fun or interesting places to hang out. Let’s face it, most of us don’t usually think of them at all. But this clever, low-budget office complex made from bright red shipping containers highlights the hidden infrastructure potential they hold.
I never thought I’d say it, but working in a shipping container might actually be cool.
Designed by Israeli studio Potash Architects, “Shipping Container Terminal” is an office building, technical facility and event space recently installed at the Port of Ashdod, just 40km south of Tel Aviv. It’s certainly not the first time shipping containers have been repurposed as buildings — in fact, all around the world the humble, sturdy boxes are being transformed into everything from classy homes to tailgate parties.
Still, this is one of the more well-executed ideas we’ve seen: It’s an attractive design that fits in perfectly in on the industrial seafront. And that angled container staircase is pure genius.
