This Is The Tablet Of The Year: Gizmodo Awards 2014

The votes are in. This is your tablet of the year for 2014.

Editor’s Pick

Apple iPad Air 2

The iPad Air was super impressive. It made a big tablet feel small in the hand by making everything thin, trim and light. When it came time to release the new iPad, we weren’t sure what to expect, but lo and behold: it got even thinner, and even better.

Even more than its continued weight shedding exercise, Apple has worked on making its screen construction process even better, so that blacks look blacker and glare is minimised. It’s this subtle tweaking and attention to detail that makes the iPad Air 2 an award-winning tablet for us.

Honourable Mention:

Samsung Galaxy Tab S: It was a coming of age for Samsung’s tablets this year. Between the giant NotePRO and the Tab S with its beautiful SuperAMOLED screen, the gadget giant deserves a round of applause.
