Adorable Five-Year-Old Discovers Bonehead Xbox Vulnerability

Five-year-old Kristoffer Von Hassel’s parents didn’t want him getting into the grown-up games on the family’s Xbox, so they put the gory stuff behind a password. But Kristoffer’s an inquisitive little guy, and he blew right past the parental safeguard — and discovered a pretty silly Xbox security flaw in the process.

San Diego’s 10News explains how Kristoffer wiggled his way past the password on his dad’s Xbox. It was pretty simple! Kristoffer punched in an incorrect password, then just entered a bunch of spaces when the XBox asked for a retry. And just like that he was in. Sneaky.

This isn’t the first time Kristoffer figured out how to beat a password. His dad told 10News that the little guy discovered a way to creep past a smartphone lock screen by holding down the home button. Kristoffer was just one year old at the time. Clearly, the kid has the knack for this stuff.

Funny thing is, it doesn’t seem like any grown-ups discovered this security flaw before Kristoffer. His family told Microsoft about the kinderhacker’s discovery, and Microsoft rewarded him with some games and a one-year subscription to Xbox Live.

You should really watch 10News’s interview with Kristoffer. He’s charming as all get-out. And, obviously, smart as a fox. Who said video games were bad for kids? [10News]
