Editor’s Pick

Apple iPad mini with Retina Display

Last year, I put my money where my mouth was and finally bought a tablet. It was an iPad mini. At the time, I loved it and wanted for nothing else. This year, however, my mind was blown by pixels. Millions of them. The Retina Display I never knew my tablet needed was finally released, and it turned me into a so-called pixel peeper.

Over the last 12 months when I spoke to someone who was in the tablet market, they’d inevitably say that they wanted an iPad mini, but were concerned that the screen wasn’t good enough. They’d add that they would wait until the Retina Display model came onto the market, which it inevitably did.

Sure, the mini a little heavier as a result of the Retina Display, but 7-inch tablets are where it’s at right now regardless of weight, and Apple’s offering is more than worthy of this year’s Editor’s Choice award. It’s thin, svelte, gorgeous and perfect for either consuming or building creative content.

Honourable Mention
Microsoft Surface Pro 2

Last year’s Surface Pro was a pleasant experiment, but this year’s Surface is a mean machine that will make your laptop fear for its life. With battery life for days, power to burn and style to boot, we love the Surface Pro 2. More of that, Microsoft!
