What’s everyone’s favourite thing to do on a plane? Sleep, of course. Coincidentally, it’s also one of the hardest thing to do. Airsleep aims to fix that.
What does it do?
Feeds you a mix of nature sounds, ambient music, and something called “brainwave audio.” This bizarrely titled component has been patented by the app’s designers to “tune your brain to its deep sleep response” using slow-wave audio. Set the timer for how long you want to sleep, and lay back to get some shut eye. When it’s your allotted waking time, the app will sound of one of five noises to tear your from the comfort of sleep (hopefully).
Why do we like it?
Of course, to use it, you’re going to need to be someone who’s able to sleep with noise in the background. But as far as background sleeping sounds go. Ambient tracks and noise custom-made to drown out the grating sounds of an aeroplane in-flight sure sounds better than the alternative. So if you’re someone who can’t quite bring themselves to shell out the money for noise-cancelling headphones, this is probably the next best thing. Plus, from now to December 31, 2013, you can download the app for free — so there’s nothing to lose. It will come with three sounds, but you can purchase more three-sound sound banks for $US1 each.

The Best: Drown out aeroplane noise pollution
The Worst: Better not need total silence to sleep
