Simply incredible. As great as the robotic rovers are, they just don't have the same sense of "Wow!"
Getting to the moon was one of mankind's greatest achievements, but what do we to when we get there? Hoon in the lunar rover, Brilliant!
Um, you'll probably find it was for videoing the land scape, and for testing the vehicle. Besides, there is nothing wrong with having a bit of fun. If you're reading the internet at work, your figuratively "hooning" on your job.

they spent all that money getting there and yet they couldn't afford to give the camera guy a tripod
