You’ll Have to Hold Tight for iTunes 11

Apple’s wish list for its revamped iTunes product is long, but near the top was an October release date. After it was an iPad mini event truant, iTunes seemed destined not to make the cut. Now, Apple tells AllThingsD, it’s going to be another month...

“The new iTunes is taking longer than expected and we wanted to take a little extra time to get it right. We look forward to releasing this new version of iTunes with its dramatically simpler and cleaner interface, and seamless integration with iCloud before the end of November.”

Delays are natural in software development, expected even, and if anything there’s hope that this hold-up means that iTunes really is getting the much-needed overhaul it deserves. Or maybe it’s just that the team has been a little distracted, what with Apple’s top execs playing musical chairs last night (Scott Forstall, by the way, lost).

Among the expected changes to the bloated, creaking music player are a cleaner layout, better playlist options, a redesigned mini-player, and more robust viewing options. Not expected: the vengeful return of Ping, much of a reason to go back to iTunes if you’ve already bailed. [AllThingsD]

Turn by turn map delays, iTunes delays. Seems them Apples are losing their shine.

You make it sound like they haven't had delays before. COmpared to the fiasco that was getting a white iPhone 4 to the market, a month delay for these products is nothing. It may suck for us Australians, but they got the turn by turn out for pretty much everyone else they had planned to. Had we got it and some other country missed out, I doubt anyone on here would be paying any attention at all.

Because no other company ever delays a release. I'd rather it done right and delayed a little than pushed out early with bugs.

So long as it works. I have a quad core i7 with 8gb of ram and iTunes still runs like crap and lags. Constantly.

Do you have an SSD? That's the update that got iTunes to run without any lag for me on both PC and MacBook.

itunes for windows has always been horribly slow and buggy, I hardly think they are taking extra time for the windows users haha

Vista was promised but came out almost a year afterwards, and it was a POS even then. Several updates later, it finally worked. As long as Apple need to get this right, I'd prefer they don't rush it out just for the hell of it.

They should bin it and start again. who uses a music player to buy apps?
