Mysterious UFO-Shaped Object Sunk In Baltic Sea Photographed By Divers

Last year, a mysterious UFO-shaped 18.2m disc was discovered at the bottom of the Baltic sea by a Swedish ocean exploration team using sonar. Now they have managed to get near it and take photographs.

According to diver Stefan Hogeborn, they have never seen anything like this:

During my 20-year diving career, including 6000 dives, I have never seen anything like this. Normally stones don't burn. I can't explain what we saw, and I went down there to answer questions, but I came up with even more questions.

At first, the divers thought that the disc was just some kind of rock cliff. But closer observations revealed something different:

The object appeared more as a huge mushroom, rising 3-4 metres/10-13 feet from the seabed, with rounded sides and rugged edges. The object had an egg shaped hole leading into it from the top, as an opening. On top of the object they also found strange stone circle formations, almost looking like small fireplaces. The stones were covered in something resembling soot.

The divers say that there is a 300m long path that can be described "as a runway or a downhill path that is flattened at the seabed with the object at the end of it."

Peter Lindberg, who is one of the founder of the Swedish Ocean X Team, has always been clear that they are not claiming that this is a spaceship of any kind, but they don't know what it is:

First we thought this was only stone, but this is something else. And since no volcanic activity has ever been reported in the Baltic Sea the find becomes even stranger. As laymen we can only speculate how this is made by nature, but this is the strangest thing I have ever experienced as a professional diver.

These guys are not a bunch of crazy UFO hunters but a company that finds sunken ships and retrieves their contents for profit. In 1997 they found the ship Jönköping, which was loaded with 2500 bottles of an amazing champagne: Heidsieck&Co Monopole 1907 "Gout Americain", dedicated to the Russian Imperial Fleet. They sold those bottles for $US13,000 a pop.

The strange disc was found on June 19, 2011, at 87m below the surface of the Bothnia Gulf, which is located somewhere between Finland and Sweden in the Baltic. From the images, it appears to be an extremely smooth rock-like surface.

The shape may remind you of the Millennium Falcon and the tracks seem to suggest the object destroyed part of seabed on its way to its final position. But this could be anything, including a geological formation or, as Lindberg said at the time of its discovery, some archeological find, a "new Stonehenge". But that explanation doesn't make much sense.

Lindberg and his team are still at the site, exploring it and trying to get a definitive answer to what is this and how it happened. [Ocean Explorers via Expressen — IN Swedish]

Maybe its just an old meteorite from a couple million years ago that has been smoothed from the tides.
Can't explain the path to it still being there.

Thats what I thought at first but if it had been there for so long the "Runway" of damage from it landing would have been covered over by soot or have eroded.

Unless it was recently (relatively speaking) disturbed by something, like an impact of some sort, and it got washed along the seabed to its new position, causing damage along the way.

So that's where the Milennium Falcon ended up!

      Lol!

I always knew Octopi and jellyfish were aliens.

I'm thinking it's just remnants from the glacial past of the Baltic Sea area. The hype is FAR greater than the science content here.

On the US Giz site commentors suggest a glacier rock and path. Seems sound to me.

Is it just me or can anyone else make ANYTHING out from that video?

He.. I was just thinking, 'now that's exiting,.. not' .. :)

Hope its aliens, but it looks like a top of a buried temple or pyramid? My guess.

Crashed north Korean rocket? Seems to be a few of them these days :-)

You'll have to pardon me if I refuse to hang by the testicles until we get something meaninful on this subject.

Easy, Millennium Falcon... have a look around you'll find Solo's jacket as well.

the ship that brought us here from Venus after we destroyed it

After watching that video I still have no idea what shape they think a UFO is supposed to be.

I vote for the glacial rements idea mentioned above by a couple of commenters.
    Crowdsourced marine archiology FTW!

    the last remnants of atlantis

    It's an invasion!

It's a pile of rocks so...

    Sentient rock aliens.

could be damn near anything from the look of the images and video.
    hmmmm, interesting sonar image...
    oooooh, a rock.
    ooooh smooth rock...
seriously, these guys are either up to bullshit or are in the business of making teaser trailers!

I think it's an early ship design, the ancient/viking version of the Titanic (Noah's ark?) that experimented with an oval shape hull. The rock is really just mortar, used as the the building method to harden it. The big 'ol thing sprung a leak, listed, and sank. Get inside her and let's see what's really going on.

Perhaps it is an early Stealth type aircraft that went wrong. If it is really there, go dig it up and really see. You know, like Noah's Ark in Turkey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I knew that something was wrong with those guys from Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania). Not Germans nor Russian! Now, everything make sense, they are Aliens!

It could just be glacier rock & debris from either finland or sweden.Glacier carried it there and got dragged along the bottom before dislodging, hence the "path".
    Duh.....

Correct me if i'm wrong but wouldn't something like a UFO or asteroid hit water and pretty much fall straight down. It isn't big enough to make it though 80m of water and still make a trail behind it. I'm going to call bs. And that video doesn't clarify much. Take a chunk of it, analyze, get back to me.

That's what I thought, the water would have stopped it dead. Most just some geological formation. Probably lava coming to the surface on the sea bed. That explains the shape and the "runway"

Don't forget that it's only 87m under the surface, and that sea levels were 120m lower during the last glacial maximum about 20,000 years ago.

There's every possibility that the circles on top *are* from people burning fires there, before the site got submerged ~10-15,000 years back.

    Is anyone else thinking "Sphere"?

I am now.. I dont like it :(

After all these years, I've been wondering whatever happened to my missing barbecue spatula!!
