Another day, another ridiculous weight-loss scheme. Brides-to-be are now paying $US1500 to have a feeding tube inserted through their nose, from which they will live for 10 days off a slow-drip slurry of protein and fat.
The 800-calorie meal plan is just enough to shock your body into ketosis — burning all fat and no muscle — and its extended release keeps you feeling full all day long, which means they’ll be able to slip into a smaller dress size on the big day.
The only drawbacks: the buildup of ketones in your body gives your breath a foul odour and makes your entire person smell like nail-polish remover. Also, constipation. [Yahoo via Buzzfeed]

No this is going too far. Anyone doing this needs to think again! No difference between doing this and any other eating disorder.
"The 800-calorie meal plan is just enough to shock your body into ketosis — burning all fat and no muscle " completely false. The rate of muscle loss is related to many factors, including the severity of the caloric deficit, protein intake and activity. On such a huge caloric deficit there will be muscle loss, especially if the subjects are not undertaking any form of resistance training, as the body would put a preference on holding on to fat rather than lean tissue.
The other problem with this is that since keto diets have been shown to be no more effective for fat loss than any other diet of a similar caloric deficit, these people could just eat one Whopper Cheese per day (roughly the same calories http://www.calorieking.com.au/foods/calories-in-burgers-sandwiches-burger-whopper-w-cheese_f-Y2lkPTQxMzg5JmJpZD0zNDMmZmlkPTgzNDgmZWlkPTE1MDE3NDAxNiZwb3M9MSZwYXI9JmtleT13aG9wcGVy.html) and get the same weight loss for about $60. Plus they'd get to eat actual food.
I would debate that a Whopper with Cheese is not actually real food...
This is just silly.. either diet or don't diet.. this is abnormal and should be seen as such in the medical community. Persons doing this and those administrating it need to evaluated.
I remember a Benny Hill episode where a bride-to-be refused "all" food to ensure she maintained a slim figure for her wedding. At the wedding reception the (now) wife ate the entire wedding cake.
Good grief.
If someone is so psychologically disconnected from themselves that they can't control their own food intake without resorting to this stupidity, they've got bigger issues than body weight they need to get sorted out.
Also, who the hell would want to marry someone like that.? ( I guess someone else who's also psychologically impaired.)
