Telstra’s Doing A Midnight iPad Launch

If you’re in Melbourne or Sydney, and especially keen on an iPad, Telstra’s just announced it’ll be opening the doors for its flagship Melbourne and Sydney stores just past midnight for sales. For the rest of the country, it’s also announced plan pricing.

Telstra’s release notes that it’ll be “throwing open the doors to its Sydney (George St) and Melbourne (Bourke St) flagship stores at 12.01am Friday morning so that customers will have the chance to get in early to purchase the new iPad.”, although the wording there is just a teensy bit unclear; it could well mean that Telstra will be toeing the Apple line and letting customers in to wait until 8am as per Apple’s own sales plans; I’ll update once Telstra makes that clear.

In plan terms, there’s not too much surprising; Telstra’s once again only offering 24-month terms, with the cheapest being a 16GB iPad for $48/month for 1GB of data ($1,152 in total) and the high end being a 64GB iPad for $107/month with 15GB of data ($2,568 in total). There’s no 12 month contract option, and Telstra doesn’t appear to be selling iPads outright. [Telstra]
