Watch This Artist Create A Caffeinated Masterpiece With Coffee Cup Stains

I couldn’t paint someone’s portrait even if I had access to DaVinci’s brushes, paints and other tools. So I’m completely mesmerised by Hong Yi’s ability to create this image of singer Jay Chou with nothing but spilled coffee and a mug.

The piece took about 12 hours to complete, and besides being difficult for the simple fact that she was painting with a porcelain cup instead of a brush, apparently the coffee mixture and placement had to be perfect every time since the rings were instantly permanent.

I wish my tablecloth looked like this by the end of the week, then I wouldn’t feel so bad about not washing it. [Oh I See Red via Laughing Squid via Coudal]

That’s amazingly good. Oh to have some artistic talent.

Art is subjective sure, like what you like, but I don’t think the final product is amazing at all, looks like a sketch. I’m sure it smells great though :P

I saw this post on another site this morning, this is more my cup of tea: http://karanarora.posterous.com/insane-art-formed-by-carving-books-with-surgi

@JRC…. Can you link some of your subjectively better sketches, or do you do masterpieces??? (I know you will never read this article again, but having a last word you know)

This is art and it is a recognisable portrait, you may not choose to work in this medium, but then lots of people choose not to work at all…

      Sometimes I come back. :)
This is definitely ART, and the artist has talent and skill, and I wish her the best. But, my personal taste, the work does not WOW me, at all.

To be honest I don’t think I would have made my comments if the article had not called it a ‘masterpiece’, I was expecting to be amazed.
Retitle this article to be _”Watch This Artist Create A Caffeinated *Portrait* With Coffee Cup Stains”_ and I would have probably commented “Nice!, I bet that it smells great too!”

To answer your question, yes I do digital paintings and sketches and I am working on my skill all the time, I like my work but not label anything of mine as a ‘masterpiece’. Or as ‘art’ for that matter, but that’s another kettle.
