Gizmodo AU

Here in Australia, it’ll be called the Walkman NWZ-Z1050 and we’ll only be getting the 16GB version. It features a 4.3-inch (800×480) multi-touch display, 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, GPS, Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and full access to the Android Market.

A reminder: this isn’t a phone, just a music player, we’re still waiting on Australian details for the upcoming Xperia S. Back to the Z Series Walkman: it lacks an FM transmitter and battery life is rated for 20 hours (music) and 5 hours (video).

Sony Press Release
The Walkman Z Series features an S-Master MX digital amplifier which greatly reduces distortion levels. In addition to the S-Master MX, the Walkman Z Series also boasts the full range of Sony’s Clear Audio Technologies – Clear Bass, Clear Stereo, DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine), and EX headphones.

Music Unlimited
The Walkman Z Series allows users to gain access to Sony’s Music Unlimited service. Music Unlimited offers music lovers the ability to listen to a constantly growing catalogue of millions of songs starting with a Basic subscription fee of $4.99/month or a Premium subscription fee of $12.99/month.

The Music Unlimited service currently offers over seven million tracks from major labels including
Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and EMI Music as well as leading independent labels and major publishers worldwide.

Ergonomic Body Design
The Walkman Z Series has a unique ergonomic body design giving users the ability to share music with their friends and families without the need of a speaker-dock through the built-in xLOUD speaker system. The Walkman Z Series also has the ability to connect to compatible speakers, headphones, hi-fi systems or car stereos via Bluetooth.

Amazing 4.3″ Display
Music, videos, games and apps come alive on the Walkman Z Series’ unique anti-reflective 4.3” multitouch LCD screen. Its high responsiveness, combined with a speedy 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dualcore processor, keeps things speedy whether you’re browsing web pages, movies or apps.

Fully Connected
Much more than a simple personal audio player, the Walkman Z Series allows users to share content at home and on-the-move wirelessly via Wi-Fi or through a connection to other DLNA-enabled devices. The ability to simply ‘throw’ music, picture and video files from the Walkman Z Series to compatible TVs, PCs, or home audio systems allows users to share their content with unparalleled ease.

W.Button
The Walkman Z Series features the W.Button allowing you to launch the unique W.Control app. The W.Control app gives users the ability to play or skip songs with a simple touch or swipe of your finger. The Walkman Z Series can even sort music using SensMe – built-in technology that places your music into one of fourteen mood-themed playlists.

Availability
Available in 16GB, the new Walkman NWZ-Z1050 Mobile Entertainment Player from Sony will be available in Australia from late april 2012 for SRP $269 inc. GST.

Sony really has no consistency in its branding does it? I was under the impress it’s phones would come under the “Xperia” brand. But okay then.

Have they ever considered actually making a phone like this? I’d kill for a good walkman phone! Currently I have a galaxy nexus and an s755 walkman. I’d prefer to have just one device but I don’t see that day coming anytime soon.

What? Android can’t play music? What exactly would a Walkman phone do any differently?

Better sound quality? I’m not talking about software, I’m talking about hardware. The galaxy nexus doesn’t even compare to my s755 or my old Sony Ericsson w995 in terms of sound quality.

What Am I going to do with 16 GB worth of space? The least they could have done is at least offered the 32 GB version in here.

I do not understand sony processing system ! I get that they have to make some profit and for some reason 16+GB models apparently dont make them much profit, but at least provide a limited amount for your fans. I have been a sony fan for a long time. I own more than 7 Sony walkman but frankly I am getting tired of ordering from overseas markets through various forwarding shipping services.

I think for me the Sony days are over.
