EU Investigating Samsung Over Unfair Lawsuits

When Samsung went on a patent lawsuit spree last year in the European courts, they may have reneged on an agreement they gave the European Telecommunications Standards Institute to license any “essential patents” to competitors “fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory” terms. So now the EU is investigating Samsung on suspicion that they distorted competition in the mobile market. Fun!

Most notably, Samsung and Apple went to war in courts all over the globe, but one of the more prominent battles (and relevant to this investigation) was the one which took place in the French and Italian courts. If Samsung gets slapped on the wrist over this, I can only imagine the collective air of smugness that will exist over at 1 Infinite Loop. [European Union]

Last I heard, Samsung offered Apple an option to licence said FRAND patents. How much and was it a reasonable figure? There aren’t rules for Apple and rules for everyone else.
