If you’re planning on having a big weekend, you might want to take a few moments to freshen up on your CPR. You know, just in case. The British Heart Foundation has created a handy video to help you remember the key steps to helping someone stay alive. After watching ‘ard man Vinnie Jones perform CPR to the tune of Stayin’ Alive, you’ll never forget.
It’s a fantastic commercial, both informative and entertaining and brilliantly executed. Vinnie Jones nails the tough guy role – as expected, given it’s the only role he can play – but the combination of education in the video is inspired. I’d love to see an Australian version, although I can’t quite imagine who would have the same sort of tough guy presence.

Exactly the instruction I got in medical school (the stayin' alive rhythm I mean).
I've always used Baa Baa Black Sheep for my timing.
For each beat you pump once during 'baa baa black sheep haveyou any wool [beat] yes sir yes sir three bags full', that gives you rhythm for your 15 pumps, then you do the breathing, then back to baa baa black sheep.
except it's 30 beats before a breath.
30 beats before 2 breaths i rember... then again im due to redo my 1st aid this may. but i do rember that the cheast compressions where more important as you did manage to get some air in with the cheast compressions.

In the US they got Ken Jeong (From community, and was once a doctor) to do a similar ad.
Hands only? Wouldn't a bit of oxygen be helpful as well??
Due to a venturi effect the breathing isn't that crucial to random people doing it, getting compressions right is much more important and will drag in some air, giving the paramedics time to get there. This comes from the international resus council by the way.
Interesting to know, thanks for the reply.
I work in an ED and we sing this song when whoever's doing the compressions is going too fast. Always seems to make people less nervous, too.
Ad would have been better if Vinnie had kept to the rhythm - his beat is way faster and out of sync with the music by the end. Confusing to viewers if they haven't quite got the idea of using the music
Australia should have eric bana playing as chopper to do it :)
Bana? Nah.
The REAL Chopper. I'm sure he'd be up for it.
