Vodafone Launches New App To Monitor Data Use

Gizmodo AU

In an attempt to make 2012 a much better year for its customers, Vodafone today has released the My Vodafone app for iOS and Android, offering the ability to closely monitor your data consumption and avoid getting stung by excess usage charges.

While the free app’s main function is as a 24 hour data usage monitor, it also features a range of customer service functions that could potentially get a workout if Voda ever lapses into its heady Vodafail days again:

Benefits of the My Vodafone app:
· Account usage – customers can follow their usage by handy meters showing how much of their plan entitlements they’ve used each month
· Check account details – customers can view their account and contact details
· Store locator – customers can find their nearest Vodafone store and pinpoint it on a map
· Network updates – customers can get live network updates and service alerts
· Contact us – customers can find the right numbers and email addresses to get the support they need
· Vodafone Central – customers can read all the latest news and special offers on their phone
· Vodafone apps – check out and download Vodafone’s pick of the latest and greatest apps
· Vodafone on YouTube – access Vodafone’s YouTube page for a great selection of videos and information

The app works for both phones and tablets, and is available through the App Store or Android Marketplace now.

Read the first half of this and was totally expecting it to end with “arrow in the knee”.

if you are on pre-paid, doesn’t it automatically deduct the money from your account at the end of each session? (I’ve never been on pre-paid and I’m curious to know)

Will not accept a log in. I use Consume on the iPhone and that updates OK but a VHA written Android App will not give me usage.

I think it said “log on to the website to see usage”.

ICS has it by default….. I realise there are not any choices at the moment aside from the Galaxy Nexus, but it is kind of redundant given this functionality is baked into ICS.
    Waste of time!

Incorrect. There are multiple ways providers calculate data usage – VHA for example, calculate in blocks, do not count uploads, and exclude Vodafone Live from your download count. This app would be accurate.

Actually I have ICS on my Nexus S (as an OTA update, so it’s legit) and it has the data tracking feature as well.

I’m running ICS on my Desire and the data usage meter is good for tracking data usage in and out of the device but it doesn’t take into consideration the carrier metering such as non metered social networking.

Better App would be one that tells you if you are likely to ever get reception!!!!!

So once again WP7 gets left in the dark. Microsoft really need to get into the providers to push these important 3rd part apps onto the platform or lose more market share.

It’s an example of the biggest problem facing WP7

I don’t think this is as bad as some other examples. Vodafone only sold 1 model of WP7 handset, and I don’t think it was very popular.

Well it did sell out apparently :/

Nokia is just around the corner, fingers crossed that will boost its figures… Considering Voda around the world had the Nokia phones :/

Given that one or more of the parts of their conventional website have perpetually disfunctional for as long I can remember, I wouldn’t exactly hold my breath in relation to this glorious new initiative.
What is the deal with telco I.T. departments? Dregs??

I actually use a 3rd party app that does this, and even has a widget!!! its called Vodafone Usage on android market. As per usual a member of the public beat vodafone to their own app. Now if only ANZ would release Go money for android.

I’m in no danger of exceeding my voda data limit because their 3G data speeds are hopeless! Soon as my contract is up i’m jumping ship, don’t care what they’re promising.

Vodafail spend money on this when still after years of deserting customers, they still don’t even try to fulfill their coverage and service obligations. Why the hell don’t they just leave the country so someone else can have a go.

I don’t know where you’re living, but they’ve DEFINATELY gotten better along the South Coast. i’ve gone from between 0-1 bar to full reception in most towns.

I do apologize but this seems to be an awfully ignorant comment. They have spent a substantial amount on upgrades and new hardware ($1 billion 2011-2012). Secondly, leave the country so someone else can have a go? Nothing is stopping others from having a go as it is; Optus/Telstra and sub carriers are certainly having a go.

    Note

    Monday, January 16, 2012 at 5:10 PM

The app is showing incorrect usage same as website. If u look under ‘Account Summary’, it shows more data and calls left as compared to ‘Usage Details’ section. Its clearly not showing the true remaining value under ‘Account Summary’ and make u believe that u have enough in the cap to spend.

Epic Vodafail again, read the article decided to try the app. Downloaded the App from Itunes, signed into my account . Boom error message pops up ” Unable to connect to My Vodafone” please check internet connection and try again. All this is happening while i am connected to their 3G service. I would recommend staying clear of anything branded Vodafone for the moment, you know its bound to fail.

The app does not go into landscape mode, so when I type on my HTC Desire Z’s keyboard to put the password in, it’s all sideways :/

    AND

“All information is up to 48 hours old” Then wtf am I using your stupid app for? So I can see what I did two days ago? waste of time

Absolutely useless. Doesn’t work because, wait for it, Vodafone services at the source aren’t working.

Android users. Try “My Data Manager” instead. Far superior to this failed attempt of Vodajoke.

Vodafone Usage (Plus) is much better – 3rd party app reads off VHA servers (actually it’s an internet scraper), but it’s 100% accurate, not an estimation like most other 3rd party apps.

I used My Usage which lets you track multiple accounts including Vodafone data. However since yesterday the data totals seems to be blocked from My Usage which could be a sneaky trick by VHA to force use of their app.

The VHA app has very limited widget options where as My Usage could give you total data package info which is useful if you have more than one data package in a bundle (plan plus free add ons). The VHA app gives you one or the other.
