Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie are out, and Thorsten Heins is in as their replacement CEO at RIM. To showcase just how dynamic and inspirational he is, the company posted a video of their bold new leader on YouTube. Only, uh, it’s probably more likely to send you to sleep than get you buying a BlackBerry.
“I’m absolutely excited,” he drawls in painful monotone. “This is so fantastic and phenomenal to become the CEO.” Then say it like you mean it, Thorsten!
“We need to have more of an ear towards the consumer, so I want to strengthen that by bringing some really good marketing expertise in,” he continues. Hmmm. Maybe take a hands-off approach on that one, Thorsten.
I might be a little rude, but this man is — how can I put this? — just a bit dull. It’s probably not helped by the grey hair and self-consciously dressed-down lack of tie. Is that what RIM needs? Who knows. At least he can’t do too much damage, as most of it’s already been done. [RIM]
