No BlackBerry Shock: RIM Dumps Both CEOs

Gizmodo AU

OK, no one is going to pretend this is a surprise: RIM has dumped both its co-CEOs Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis. Whether that will help in the wake of a reduced product slate remains to be seen, but radical change up top certainly couldn’t hurt as BlackBerry tries to regain its former glory. [Bloomberg]

No doubt they got a nice big golden parachute for their trouble too!

Paid in discarded Playbooks, no doubt.

I noticed in the Optus shop today that if you buy a BlackBerry Torch you get a free PlayBook. Now that is what I call an unsuccessful product. Shame, because when I tried the PlayBook I thought it was actually quite good. But I guess there’s no room for a minor third OS in the tablet wars.

Blackberry used to be “the thing”.. but now it’s the ugly duckling.. for their sake and everyone elses, I hope they have a happy ending.

Took them long enough. Those CEOs should have been dropped more than a year ago.

Seriously, they’re too long out of the race to catch up now. They need something new and groundbreaking to even come close to catching up. I can’t see it happening and I forsee a liquidation coming on…..

I don’t understand the massive negativity towards BB. I went from an Iphone, to Android and now own the Android and a new BB Bold9900 and have never had a better phone. The Android and Iphone have better distractions to pass time but my Bold covers my needs of a phone incredibly vell. Long live RIM

The negativity is because they went from cutting edge shiny to yesterday’s news, then pissed about doing nothing useful when they should have been fixing it. A Nokia 1100 might suit your needs of a phone incredibly well, but you wouldn’t expect anyone to be impressed by it.

Just in case anybody considering a BB is going through this, I urge you to go to the shops and try out their phones. Lately it’s popular to talk BB products down and the internet sheep are following as expected. As someone who’s used everything available to the market recently my advice is give the BB a shot, and if you need a big screen phone, go for a Windows device
