What happens when you mix two backyard staples, the water balloon and the barbeque grill? Apparently a pop loud enough to convince your neighbours you’re setting off anti-aircraft missiles.
Now I’m not saying to try this or anything – certainly not – but I can’t help imagining that I would be impressed by the summertime BBQ hos who pulled out this party trick. [The Awl]

You get exactly the same results just throwing a cup of water onto the hot coals. Try it!
It’s not an explosion as such, just a rapid expansion of steam. (technically, that’s what an explosion is, but in this case it’s not fire and steel shrapnel, just water vapor)
Hardly worthy of mention on a gadget web site though.

Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 1:24 PMSounds more like someone took a recording of a grenade and inserted it. A real camera mic would have a lot of crackle with something that loud compared to the voices.

Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 2:19 PMDEFINITELY an edit. As a sound editor, it sounds like someone mixed in a low level cannon boom, much like Arnie’s shotgun in T2.
