Pantone, official arbiter of the visible spectrum, has declared its selection for next year’s color — a statement of both insane arbitrariness, and great weight in the world of things. So what’ll it be? You’re lookin’ at it!
The above hue is Tangerine Tango (also referred to as “red”), which, as The colour of 2012, must grace one object in your possession, lest you feel like a peasant. It’s… kind of boring? Maybe it’s seeing it on a piece of fabric instead of a shiny computer or vibrant iPhone case, but it’s not really doing much for me here. But Pantone disagrees, duh:
“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango [top] is an orange with a lot of depth to it. Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”
If you think you can differentiate between Tangerine Tango and the other trillion shades of red, keep your eyes peeled — it could be popping up on an expensive manufactured item near you. [bookofjoe]

Monday, December 12, 2011 at 5:17 PMSomeone has obviously made too much Tangerine Tango and are trying to pawn it off to the ever susceptable fashion concious. EVERYONE knows that next years colour is #30391C! Pantone is only for printing.

Monday, December 12, 2011 at 5:22 PMAhahahahah that description from Pantone is pretty amazing. I mean I think you have to be pretty creative to come up with such eloquent BS.
I’ll agree it’s a nice colour for a feature wall or something, but that’s certainly kind of irrelevant to me as I’m in a rental house. And yeah, “colour of the year”? What a silly statement.

Monday, December 12, 2011 at 6:36 PMI dunno man, my Cintiq costs more than most people’s computers and TVs combined, it does a pretty decent job of showing print colours how they’re meant to be seen…
Still looks like boring brick-red to me.

Monday, December 12, 2011 at 6:10 PMFuck. Now I’m going to have to get rid of all the shit in my house that’s red so as not to look like a pretentious hipster. Which is kind of pretentious. Fuck.

Tangerines are orange, not red.

Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 8:15 AMThat swatch is honestly going to look different to every single person who has a look at it. Unless its two people that have their screens calibrated exactly the same..but i doubt it.
