What, you may be asking, is the point of unveiling a tablet alongside one that’s touted as being the “Media Edition”? Shouldn’t all tablets have media at its heart? Funnily enough, the Media Edition is smaller, at 8.2-inches, with the Xoom 2 clocking in at 10.1-inches.
Both tablets sound very similar, with their dual-core 1.2GHz processors; Android 3.2 (Honeycomb), and Gorilla Glass displays. But there the small differences start: the 10.1-inch Xoom 2 has a brighter display than the original Xoom, and weighs 100 grams lighter too. Battery life is listed at 10 hours for video playback too, so you’re well-protected for European flights, at least.

The Media Edition however has a wider 178-degree viewing angle, so several people can watch the same movie on its 8.2-inch screen (good luck with that), and graphics are said to be 20 per cent improved over the original Xoom. If you spring for the HD multimedia station, it can be connected to a TV or speakers to further get the most out of that “media” Motorola is so keen to talk about.
While both tablets have been announced for UK and Ireland, we haven’t heard a peep from Motorola Australia (or USA for that matter). We’ll update you when we know more.

Friday, November 4, 2011 at 10:01 AMAhh fanboys. When will you guys ever learn that you are not right, Apple does not produce the best product, maybe the best product for you but not for me.
In a few years time you will change your tune but realise, people use what suits them, iPad does not suit me as I want a smart tablet not a dumb pretty tablet.
iPad is a good simple easy to use product with lots of pointless apps and a few really good ones. The Xoom has it’s place and in the end all those thousands of apps are pointless if you are not going to use them.
I don’t care about the iPad 3, I do care about the Asus transformer 2 but I know people do care about the iPad 3 and that’s great for them.

Friday, November 4, 2011 at 12:59 PMSince a tablet is a platform for apps… It is nothing else, how is an android tablet with no explicitly tablet apps better than an iPad with all the apps? It doesn’t matter who you are, if your tablet doesn’t have useful software, there is no point…
The media argument is tired as well. You can get whatever you want onto anything you want.

Friday, November 4, 2011 at 10:33 AMNow the reason for the Kogan Xoom sale becomes clear.
I may have need for a new tablet in future if they continue to improve like this.
