Iconic Yahoo! Neon Sign Being Torn Down

A symbol of the internet’s success, a reminder of the the dot.com crash, and otherwise just a nice-looking neon sign, the Yahoo! billboard has welcomed drivers to the Bay Bridge in San Francisco for more than a decade. Sadly, its time has come.

Jon Charles, the Vice President of Clear Channel Outdoor in San Francisco has confirmed that, “Yes, the Yahoo! board will be available starting in December 2011.”

I just want to know who’s going to replace Yahoo! and advertise themselves on the sign. What’s the betting it’ll be Google?

A pity really. Heritage Listing sorts of laws really should protect things like this also, as it really is a snapshot of the audacity and braggadocio of that area, at that time.
Also, I’ll have it if no-one else wants it!

I already know how it’ll be demolished too.
