Apparently, the latest version of HTC Sync will let the HTC Rhyme and HTC Sensation XL sync with iTunes. What? Yep. According to Taiwan News, the HTC Sync app will “automatically detect iTunes (or Windows Media Player) to copy media files such as music, pictures and contacts to their phones.”
Once detected, you can load up any files you want on iTunes into your Android phone. That makes things easier for Android users! I think it’s safe to assume that HTC will want to include this feature of sorts into future phones too.
It’s going to be interesting how Apple reacts to this HTC/iTunes sync as they’ve shut down initiatives like this before (remember the Pre working with iTunes?). Maybe Apple will think differently now! With iCloud around, iTunes sync is the ugly step sister that no one really wants to use anymore. Maybe Apple will let HTC slide. Maybe? Maybe? Slight chance? Bueller? [Taiwan News via HTC Source]

Friday, November 11, 2011 at 8:24 AMSurprised HTC didn’t release their own media player. Buggy, pointless giant clocks everywhere, clouds flying all over the screen to chew your battery on laptop.

Pst! That’s just a default homescreen, you can remove the clock widget if you so choose.

Friday, November 11, 2011 at 8:52 PMSounds like you’re not technical when it comes to customising your phone’s homepage, tsk tsk.

Friday, November 11, 2011 at 9:05 AMThis is perfect for those few people who still think iTunes is the best software. I’ll pass though.

Friday, November 11, 2011 at 9:37 AMIt’s a win for suckers who started out on iPods and moved onto iPhones but now want something new (without the hassle of re-organising years of music). Apple competitors have to support iTunes if they want to lure people away from existing iOS devices… which is why Apple will shut this down ASAP.

Friday, November 11, 2011 at 9:49 AMI’m baffled as to why they’re even bothering with this. Do they seriously think there’s the slightest chance Apple WON’T break this?
Blake
Friday, November 11, 2011 at 9:53 AMWhy would you ever want to do that. Ever.

Friday, November 11, 2011 at 10:48 AMWhy haven’t any company sued Apple for Anti-Competition practice like Microsoft was in the EU? iTunes is like the go to for music download and users should be allowed to upload/sync to any device they choose. Just like windows is the Operating system that everyone use, and in the EU, they were not allowed to load IE or WIndows Media Player on it.

Friday, November 11, 2011 at 12:11 PMWhat?
There’s nothing stopping you from using iTunes-bought music on any other device, and no reason Apple should need to support their competitor’s products.

Friday, November 11, 2011 at 12:07 PMI was using Nokia Multimedia Transfer software on my Mac to sync with iTunes two or more years ago. Apple never put a stop to that, AFAIK.

Friday, November 11, 2011 at 1:29 PMwasnt the problem with the Pre syncing that it just pretended to be an ipod? therefore, as long as HTC represents itself as HTC, and has it’s own device id and shiz, then it should be ok?
and BenDTU, I dont think apple need to actively support competitors devices, but if they have a monopoly position on web-purchased music, then actively DISABLING competitors access should be looked at..

Friday, November 11, 2011 at 4:00 PMWell, ignoring the fact that there would be almost zero Android users interested or willing to use iTunes… sure!

Friday, November 11, 2011 at 6:10 PMIt warms my heart to see so many people recognising how awful iTunes is.

Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 12:22 AMThink of the people who have invested money in iTunes purchases. Now they might be alot more open to trying an android as their next purchase.

Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 11:25 AMI just use double twist and it syncs with iTunes over wifi.

Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 7:59 PMEverything syncs through HTC’s own HTC Sync software.
It just gets your playlists from iTunes
