This photography illusion, made with a Samsung L100 camera and Photoshop, turns half of a person’s face into a picture of their profile too. Are they looking straight at you? Or looking to the side? I can’t freaking tell and it’s giving me brain sores.
The project, titled 1/2, was created by Venezuelan student Jesús González Rodríguez. He tweaked layers in Photoshop to create a mind trip of a photography series. Sometimes when I look hard enough, I convince myself that it’s a profile picture. Then I blink and re-focus and it turns into half a face. WHAT IS GOING ON? I can’t think about it anymore BUT I CAN’T LOOK AWAY. [Jesús González Rodríguez's Flickr via My Modern Met]

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 1:27 PMIt is an impossible face. The eye and eyebrow is facing sideways but the rest is facing forwards. It is all photoshop.
The other 2 pics are facing forward but shaped like a profile shot.

Once you look at the eyes and nose, the effect goes away.

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 2:03 PMThat is both super cool and super freaky at the same time.
Very clever work, and def more effective when the eye is in profile as well.
