Sony’s Tablet S Goes On Sale Tomorrow

Gizmodo AU

Not much to the story beyond the headline, really; if you’ve been hanging out for Sony’s uniquely shaped Tablet S, it’s been announced that they’ll be on sale tomorrow.

Which probably means somebody’s already selling them if history is any guide. The 16GB model is $579, while the 32GB unit costs $689. [Sony]

All I want is an x86 based, ultrabook form factor sans keyboard with a touchscreen with stylus and finger input.

Step 1: Install Windows 8 on it.
    Step 2: ….
Step 3: Point and laugh at the iPad

I’m with you on that one, can’t wait to sell my iPad once W8 tablets start popping up, though I might miss the apps on the iPad…

      “ultrabook form factor sans keyboard”
      umm… like a slate/tablet? :–P

I’m more or less in the same boat. ASUS Transformer (or the super-sexy Transformer 2) + Win8 = WIN. Win8 is ARM compatible, and it’ll absolutely fly on Tegra 3.

I think he is more talking about the thickness of the screen of an ultrabook.

Although to be fair, I’d buy that too but I’d refrain from being a prick about it.

Tegra3 (Cortex A9 MP4 @ 1.5GHz max) is actually very slow compared to the slowest of Atoms. However, it will consume less power and will always be lighter.

The ARM/Tegra3 version of Windows, will not be backwards compatible with anything previously released for Windows as x86. It would be just like getting a Windows Phone 7 tablet, er Windows Tablet 8 where some apps would also be compatible with the ARM version.

That’s not likely for games, where most of todays engines use very specific x86 commands that would need to be remastered for the ARM. This is one of the main reasons why there are not more old games released on the iPhone and iPad.

Because of this, I would consider it more an iPad competitor, but MS has marketed it well enough to make the consumer feel that it is more like Windows 8, but being stuck with the Mango version of the Metro UI.

These things have a great LCD and behaviour a lot more fluidly than my Xoom, but are surprisingly thick.

This is the best android tablet so far. Proper DLNA support (seriously), PS suite and universal IR remote.

Surely you guys are joking. I’m running Win 8 developer and I think its laughable if you think Win 8 is meant for business users ie real work. Its slow, unintuitive and ugly.
