Hands-On iPhone 4S Video Shows 3x Speed Boost

Somehow, someone in China’s gotten their mitts on an iPhone 4S already. Or so this video claims. The brief vid, dug up by MacRumors, shows off some impressive benchmarking and Siri settings. It seems faster!

Safari launches near-instantly, which is kind of impressive. It is, after all, Safari, and might have just been recently closed. But the real pudding lies in the BrowserMark demo, in which the 4S doubles the 4′s performance. With the Java-bending Sunspider benchmark, the 4S clocks in at around a third of the time as a 4 running iOS 4, according to GigaOm’s numbers. Thanks, new A5 processor! It’d be nice to see our Chinese friend boot up Infinity Blade instead of a synthetic browser benchmark, but hey, numbers are numbers.

The video also shows Siri, which we’ve seen, as well as Siri’s settings pane, which we haven’t seen. It looks like we’ll be able to trigger the AI secretary just by lifting the phone, allowing us to talk into it like an actual conversation, instead of speaking to it from afar like lunatics. Is it just me or is apple starting to feel old now? Ever since steve’s passing (may he rest in peace), i just have felt that apple has lost what made it apple.

Anyone else feeling Apple is now irrelevant?

Totally agree with you. Apple is no longer ‘cool’ nor can it outdo Android or Windows phones anymore. Unfortunately though, there are a lot of people so far up Apples ass, that even a shit phone like the 4S (they had 18 months to make a new phone all they came up with was a better camera and siri, which isnt even new!) gets them excited.

i kind of get the feeling from your comment that you have held a negative opinion of apple before both the death of steve and the 4S.

I assume you are refering to me?

yes i have had (and still do have) a negative opinion of Apple, but now i am just not caring about it at all! (it is really strange).

i am not the only one by the way, a few of the people i spoke to today share the same views, that Apple are no longer the cool, relevant player they used to be.

well, wsDK_II, who else would they be referring to? You are the biggest anti-apple troll here.

also…..”ever since steve’s passing, apple has lost what made it apple” …really? after only a few days? Wow, you don’t waste any time.

You sir, are an idiot. Give it a couple of years before you decry the failing of the biggest tech company in the world at this point in time. What a retard.

              Thank you.

Thank you so much. You made my day, being known as the biggest anti-apple fighter out there is a real boost to my ego, and infact i believe we need a new way to measure just how good i feel about myself.

I was being serious with my comments, and as they are based on my personal opinion they are also correct for me. You tried to justify why i am wrong with your own personal opinion, which just goes to prove how much of an idiot you are.

The fact that you replied means that i win (by ‘trolling’) So thank you :D

Boost to your ego? Knowing that you’re the biggest ill informed twat? Whatever floats your boat I guess.

oh…..and so much for apple being irrelevant now LOL

                http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2011/10/apple-sells-one-million-iphone-4s-units-in-24-hours/#comments

                yeah, real irrelevant.

                weak.

Did you by any chance notice that you replied to me again? If you think that i am a troll then why feed me?

But then again, you know that i am not a troll and you know i am right, but you try and convince yourself that i am “Ill informed”

One day you will look back on your life and realise that in the end, i won.

                  :D

Except for software. The marketplace on the iPhone craps all over the competition. I would love something like a Samsung G2, I’m sick of 3.5″ screens, but at the end of the day I use my phone for a lot of entertainment which I can only find on iOS. And before you call me bias, I have an iPhone 3GS, A Samsung Omnia 7 running 7 (Waiting for mango) and a Samsung Galaxy Tab running 2.2. I also have an iPad and want a Asus slider. I do alternate between devices and they all get use, but the iPhone is the one with the most use.

you’re right…in the 5/6 days since steve jobs’ death a company with a $360b market cap has completely fallen apart…

how could his very recent death have suddenly caused Apple to feel “old” so quickly?

And Siri will speak English in Australian! that’s a relief! Usually Apple is not so considerate.

For those who choose Apple products because they feel the products make them “cool”, well…….good luck trying.

I have converted recently to Apple and have discovered the “magic” which I now understand why people love the products. They give a new meaning to “ease of use”. You look forward to using the computer because there is so much fun in the “using”. There are zero hardware and software issues to kill the joys of using. I want the iPhone because it complements the Macs I already have and it enhances my experience in using them. Everything blends in seamlessly. Start enjoying because everything just works………….everytime.

I love my iphone as much as the next guy but when I last checked, my Windows 7 driven i7 2600k @ 4.6ghz has been up for 28 days and counting. It too “just works”, “every time”, “24/7″…

yes, it’s that interconnectivity and uniform style across many devices that makes life easy with Apple’s products. I’m getting my first iMac in a month or two and I can’t wait. I would love to reclaim all those hours spent on my PC’s trying to get the damn things working. I don’t hear this complaint from Mac users. I want to live in that world for a while.

I will only believe the 4S truly is localised “Australian” if it can understand “Seeya sarvo”

Almost any Aussie can understand when another Aussie says it, and no one from the rest of the world can.

    Call it the Aussie test.

No the real Aussie test is whether it understands you shortening all your contacts names to end in “aza”.

Eg. “Tell Bazza I’m gointa Kazzas”

Sending message “I’m going to Kathy’s” to Barry. Send?

I would only be impressed with Siri if it can understand the follow:

“Can you please call Kathie on her mobile and put the call on speaker”.

I want to be able to specify speaker settings when making a call. That’s one thing that annoys me about voice dialling, if I am using voice dialling then there is a pretty good chance that I want it on speaker.
