Mac/iOS/Android: The next version of virtualisation software Parallels, which lets you run Windows software on your Mac, is coming September 6, but current users can upgrade now to get support for Lion features like full-screen viewing, simultaneous webcams usage, and more.
Parallels’ upgrade page presents a bunch of enhancements and new features that might make the $US49.99 upgrade price tag worth it if you need some new features like using iSight and FaceTime cameras in both Windows and Mac apps or want Lion as the guest OS.
According to the company, the new version also boasts speed enhancements (up to 60 per cent faster for launching Windows apps) and more video memory (up to 1GB) for better video quality.
An Android mobile app is coming, alongside the revamped (since last September) Parallels Mobile app for iOS.
New Parallels users can pick up Parallels Desktop 7 for $US79.99 starting next week or you can buy PD6 and get the free upgrade today if you just can’t wait.

Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 12:13 AMI use Virtual Box on Mac OS X. It’s nowhere near as good as Parallels, but it get the job done. For me, I just don’t see the value to justify the $80 price tag.

Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 1:56 AMI was just looking to try either Parallels or Bootcamp to run FL Studio on my MBP. What would anybody recommend? I need something that will make it as smooth and responsive as possible. Im using a Macbook Pro 15 2.4 GHz i5 about to upgrade to 8 GB RAM.
Thanks for your time!

Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 9:37 AMI think you’ll get the best results running bootcamp. Parallels is decent, but it doesn’t always run the programs quite as smooth as one could hope.
I sure hope this upgrade is included for free otherwise I’m gonna pissed as hell. I only just bought PD6 last week cause I needed it urgently for a University assignment…

If you have a look a the Parallels tech guarantee page (http://www.parallels.com/keyfor7/) there are instructions on getting your free upgrade.
