It sounds like the dealings of a crazy late night infomercial…Ending Sunday (today!), buy any laptop with an AMD processor in it, and Harvey Norman will give you a second one for nothing. [Harvey Norman via OzBargain]

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 12:13 PMSo, given HN’s normal over-pricing, that brings the individual cost down to about normal then. And of course… everyone needs 2 laptops.

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 12:19 PMIt’s a trap! The terms and conditions clearly say 1 per customer. :)
“Oh, and I’d like my free one too.”
“Sorry, limit of one per customer”
“DAMN YOU GERRY!”

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 12:27 PMWow, go to hospital for a few days and the world has lost it’s mind. HN giving away 2-for-1 deals and Kogan selling iPads.
I wonder if I’m still hallucinating…?

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 12:37 PMHarvey Norman’s prices are a complete joke anyways.
I see there stuff marked up by up to 300%, no thanks.

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 2:18 PMOver priced by 300% clearly you are a troll.
Please post the laptops that are 300% over priced ?
How can people be so stupid.

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 8:26 PMwell, a few years back I went in there to price up a monitor (one that I had seen from msy but they didnt have in stock) and told HN the price, they couldn’t even price match the model below the monitor I wanted.
the moral of this story is HN’s is overpriced and crap
yep
Friday, September 16, 2011 at 9:47 AMidk about 300% but the monitors i bought online for $200 were $500 in HN. They cant get away with too much of a mark up on some things, but on other things the mark up is crazy! usb blue tooth sticks for computers are like $50! for something that is about $2 worth of component and you can pick up online for around $10.

Monday, September 19, 2011 at 12:14 PMSo Harvey Norman who sell at the RRP from each supplier is marking up products?? But hang on MSY does not buy there products from the Australian Wholesale. It is a shame when I see a Great salesperson who knows what they are talking about (unlike some other stores) not get a sale cause they can’t to an online price. Get over yourself everyone. You like to get paid for your time, why not pay a sales person for their’s??? Oh and lets add that buying online or non Australian Stock is only going to cause us all to pay more TAX. Think about it for a sec. Money goes overseas. Retailers start closing stores, suppliers start laying people off, they all go on Welfare. Which means more taxes to pay these people. your cheap product is going to cost you alot more in the long run. This 2 for 1 deal true. I did walk in a buy an AMD Processor and got a 2nd one free. the 1 per customer meant i couldn’t buy 2 and get 2 free. Plus my AMD Quad Core out performs my i7 by a long shot, and Cheaper for the single unit. so Price got not have been marked up

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 12:45 PMStep 1 : Buy one
Step 2 : Sell the other laptop
Step 3 : Profit???
BenDTU
Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 1:16 PMStep 4: Have a single laptop for roughly what it’s actually worth.

Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 4:32 PMYes but if the original one your purchase breaks and you take it back and obtain a refund they also want the other laptop as well, if not you have to pay for it.

Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 2:27 PMRepeat for infinite profit.
Problem Gerry????
(You could probably go back a bit later in the day, or diff cashier, or diff store)

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 2:35 PMBefore working yourself into a tizz over this deal, be sure to check prices against staticice, to see how far above retail HN is charging.

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 2:46 PMDoes Giz have any recommendations based on reviews etc on what laptop to purchase?
Looking at getting one for a relative and splitting the cost so I get a cheap windows laptop.

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 2:46 PMForgot to mention, I’m a bit of a gamer, so I’ll probably like to put SC2 and Diablo 3 on it.
If any of them can run that fine it’d be perfect…I’m trying to find out myself right now.

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 2:50 PMNot trying to say you all aren’t correct but I used to work at Harvey Norman (no more thank god) and the mark-ups were not that bad. There’s a lot of costs involved in getting it to the shop, which I personally thought was a load of shit.
The mark up on a el cheapo $400 laptop is about 5-10%, where as a big one is about 10-30%.
And besides, about 9 out of 10 people always barter and get their stuff cheaper. And another point is that all of the sales guys (SPOILER ALERT) get a commission. Whilst there might be some salespeople out there that will not budge on price, there are some (mne included) that genuinely try to give the cusomter what they want and dont care how much comm we get.
But YES it is a shithouse place to work. $15/hr for a manager. No thanks.

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 7:43 PMMeanwhile the price of extended warranty and accessories have doubled. :)
Brendan
Monday, September 19, 2011 at 12:19 PMFunny HN dosen’t sell extended warranty, as it is crap, because if the Supplier will not fix it, it is not covered under extended warranty. The Product Care offered by HN is far better then Extended warranty as the loop hole are closed, such as wear and tear and dust damage.
I know my camera is cleaned 4 times a year cause of dust as product care wasn’t around when i got mine

Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 12:14 PMTrolls Alert! Do people not realise if everyone bought online for clothes and groceries and technology that no one would have a job and no one would get paid then no one would have money to buy online either…90% of people work in retail or similar right… plus I worked for Harvey’s I’m sure that laptops are RRP Tom manufacturer b

Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 1:49 PMFunny how an underpowered amd processor powered laptop went from its usual bargain price of 699 to 1199 over night. They also brought all of the stocks of each particular model so you can’t price check them with other stores (all exclusives) you can get a more powerful intel powered machine elsewhere for half the price. Its a SCAM people!

Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 3:37 PMI used to work for HN too, not sure about this deal but they wouldn’t be making to much of a loss.
HN and others will sell below cost price, every sales person gets two sales codes one for above cost and one for below.
Harvey’s may be counting on ppl buying accessories with there new purchase.
There is also something called spivs (sp) and those products which the managers tell you are spivs the sales team get special commissions on or deals.
i.e. if you sell a accessory with a ipod you get $5.00 or if you sell particular lappy you will get some kind of bonus.
HN is stupid enough to lose money on this.
anon
Monday, September 19, 2011 at 12:33 AMas a current HN emp i can tell you everyone is running at a loss. we’re running at 60 grand of loss for the last 4 days and although there are kickbacks, it only covers 15 percent of a 25 percent loss.
also everyone needs to pull their heads in regarding the “mark ups” you guys think we put on stock. stock has a rrp and that’s how we sticker. not one person has come in not not haggled for a better price and not gotten a much better price.

Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 4:43 PMWould you be able to install Linux on this system. I am using Ubintu and it is the only Linux distribution I know how to work with. I am playing a lot of poker and it is important for me to be able to install Ubuntu because it is very hard to play poker with other distributions of Linux:
