The Carpetright building, in London’s riot-ridden suburb of Tottenham, was razed amid mass rioting over the weekend. As more buildings meet the Carpetright’s fate, Brits will likely turn to Street View to revisit parts of their city ravaged by violence. [via BBC}

Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 9:22 AMMobs? Think it would be more useful to see the way the riots relate to the cut back in welfare in Britain. Oh and that there’s a whole generation of youth with nowhere to go and no hope in first world country. Guess the government has noticed them now. But whether they learn from this is another question.

Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 12:33 PMGreat, the Government has noticed them. Now what, increased unemployment from burnt down businesses? Increased insurance premiums? Less shops and community services while some rebuild? More people in Jail? Way to make a difference.
Oh and the looting, how does that fit into your master plan of getting the government to notice the welfare cutbacks?
Not sure I can agree with your theory Gianni.

Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 12:44 PMWhat a joke of a comment? Cut backs on welfare? What, you mean these same people cant motivate THEMSELVES to get out there and try and educate themselves (who cares if its the public systems, lots of people do it), go to university and get a job. Even if its a mundane job like cleaning?
Its just lazy, spoilt people getting fat of Government handouts that all of a sudden cry foul when their ‘easy’ (i use the term loosely, as I dont feel anyone living in poverty has a easy life) life is distrupted.
Its not hard to get a job, its jsut that not everyone can be an Actor, porn star, Singer etc.. get job in a call centre, distributing newspapers, cleaning hotels etc.

Another stereotypical outlook on the unemployed people as lazy money-grabbing trouble makers? These spoilt lazy people you so adequately described destroyed cities and brought a nation to its knees, and your calling them lazy…riiighhht.
Instead consider this:
A disappearing middle class and widening gap between the rich and poor. Where the elite get a leg up into over-paid jobs, and the rest fight over cleaning toilets.
How about a government that in 2010 passed plans that will see University tuition fees triple.
Or perhaps a quote:
“Man, I see in Fight Club the strongest and smartest men who’ve ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see it squandered. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables – slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need. We’re the middle children of history, man… We’ve all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars, but we won’t. We’re slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed off”
