Lunchtime Deal: Official PS3 Dualshock 3 Controller…$47

Gizmodo AU

Why pay $80+ at somewhere like JB Hi-Fi when you can pick up a Dualshock 3 controller anytime from OzGameShop for $47 including delivery. It’s black, has Bluetooth, vibrates, and you know, helps you kill zombies. [OzGameShop via OzBargain]

I am curious as to why Gizmodo – Allure Media, who employ Australian staff and try to sell advertising to Australian based companies which also employ Australians; would actively encourage their readers to spend their money outside of Australia.
If my Australian company which also employs Australians was advertising with you, I would cancel our deal immediately.

Some of us don’t have the luxury of being able to afford to pay over 70% extra just so our money can stay in Australia.

Because the site is about the readers, and not about the sponsors o.O

Maybe if we weren’t consistently screwed over by Australian retailers we wouldn’t need to take our purchases overseas. And don’t try playing the GST card..If ozgameshop can sell to the end user for $47, GST would make it about $52.

I work at a major Australian electronic shop, and I can tell you that we make a pittance on gaming consoles and official accessories

GST is only a small component, as is the duty on many products that never gets mentioned. Wonder why items are so much cheaper in the US. Simple volume and overheads. Lets make a real simple example. My friend that lives in Michigan – age 32, earns $5.95 per hour. Do you know of any 16 year olds in Aus that would turn up to work for that, hell no. Like it or not the standard of living is higher in Aus, the cost of doing business in Aus is higher. You want to be paid higher wages than other countries, but then in turn spend it overseas, guess how that ends up in the long term??????? Bite the hands that feeds.

You buy one from an Australian store, I’ll buy two for almost the same price from an importer.

Ozgameshop have been around since 2004, if it didn’t work it would die. You’ve had 7 years to do better, or put pressure on suppliers but nothing.

Now as the internet is more mainstream and people aren’t afraid to buy online/the price is way cheaper you come out of the woodwork.

    Nope.

I made a cart in Ozgameshop a few months back of 6 games I wanted. Total cart price was about $320. I put the same games into my cart at EbGames’ website and was being asked to pay $650.

Why should I pay roughly double just to support local retailers? Why am I paying SO much of my own hard earned money to give it to you guys. That’s just giving away unnecessary free money.
