Drop Your iPhone Off The Tallest Building To Win The Game

Now THIS is an iPhone game. Free Fall High Score is a self-described “antagonistic” app where the whole point is to drop your iPhone off the tallest building you can find. The higher, the better.

I’m really hoping that this can become a thing. Just watch the video. The guys tossed their iPhone off the High Line Park in New York (an elevated “urban park” on the west side) and recorded the whole thing as proof. Sure, the video only lasted all of six seconds before it landed but think about the adrenaline rush! It’s balls-out crazy.

From what I can make out, here are the rules of the Free Fall High Score game:

• Grab your iPhone
• Set your iPhone to record video
• Toss said iPhone off a really tall building
• Have friends catch the falling iPhone with a blanket (this is pretty important!)
• Stop recording
• Longest recorded video of a falling iPhone wins

The ‘game’ was created during Art Hack Weekend presented by The Creators Project and Eyebeam Team and I think there are people that can do better. six seconds is chump change, the High Line can’t be taller than like seven storeys. If you do decide to play this game (and for legal reasons, I cannot encourage you to play it and ruin your phone), be sure to tag your video #freefallhighscore on Twitter! Casey Chan, exactly what mandate have you been given as editor of Gizmodo?
“I’m really hoping that this can become a thing” & “Sure, the video only lasted all of six seconds before it landed but think about the adrenaline rush! It’s balls-out crazy”. I’m hoping that is some really subtle sarcasm. But if it is then its too subtle for your reader market and needs to made clear at least at the end of the article.

I mean really?? What would be the terminal velocity of a phone? The most likely impact point is the top of someone’s head. Is it:
      A. you actually didn’t see the obvious cause and effect going on here.
B.You did but decided it so obvious and didn’t need to be addressed.(which would be incorrect) or
C.You just don’t care about the fact that such a post might result in some not so bright Giz reader doing something stupid that might result in the death of someone else.

“I mean really?? What would be the terminal velocity of a phone?”

Assuming it’s falling with its smallest face to the ground My estimate is somewhere around 44m/s or 158.4 km/h.

Just tried it out now. However, the iPhone bounced on the blanket and broke into five pieces. Is there any way to retrieve the video now? kthxbye ;-)

This is exactly the calibre of action that I expect of an iPhone user.

“But think about the adrenaline rush”
Seriously this is the dumbest article i have read in Gizmodo, I really hope you have just started in the industry because this was terrible writing, unless its a secret ploy to see how dumb iPhone users are in if they actually try it.

I thought it was a good article, all the people having a fit are pretty stupid.
The rules are to have friends down there with a blanket (or soft cusion) to catch the phone, unless you’re randomly chucking it down it’s not going to hit someone in the head.

‘Oh hey, football is dangerous!! what if a player bought a sword and started decapitating every player’ – Idiots will be idiots.
