US Marines Use Aussie Segway Robots As Taliban Targets

Gizmodo AU

Look out, it’s a remote-controlled Segway with a machine gun – shoot it! Australian-based Marathon Robotics recently sold eight of the robot practice targets to the US Marines for a cool $US2 million. Check out this video of them in action:

Marathon Robotics says “the target can move unpredictably in a way that no other target on the market can.”

Called “Rover”, the robots are built on an armoured Segway, and have been used by the Australian Special Air service and other elite units, like the SAS, since 2008.

This is a little old, I remember reading about the US Armed forces testing these out and buying some. The Aussies have been using them for awhile. It was even an article on Giz.

So you have to join the Army to shoot people on Segways?

“So you have to join the Army to shoot people on Segways?”

No, but if you start shooting random dudes on Segways out in the street the police will have an issue with that.

This video is actually quite humorous when viewed without sound…

Why not just make a segway bot that can actually fire guns and then chase the ‘bad guys’ around in Afghanistan etc via controller.
