Product Placement Goes Back In Time

It’s bad enough that every current television show and movie shoves brand names in your face. Now, networks are digitally inserting new products into old television shows.

Consumerist spotted a magazine emblazoned with an advertisement for the new Kevin James movie Zoo Keeper in a rerun of a 2007 episode of How I Met Your Mother. A movie from 2011 in a 2007 television show! How’d they do it? Turns out there were no books in the original shot. So, look for reruns of M*A*S*H where they log onto Google+ to check in with their families back in the US, while chugging a refreshing Vita Coco coconut water. [Consumerist via Jonathan Zittrain]

I am really so sick of advertising.. I’d love to live in an advert-free city for 6 months.

If you hate ads, I hope you’re not looking to the top, right and bottom of this web page…

Also, I wonder if new ‘internet enabled’ tv’s will get a plugin written to remove the ads, just like adblockplus does to webpages…. that would be awesome! Devs, get on it!
