Did You Know: iiNet Free Zone Doesn’t Include The Mac App Store

Gizmodo AU

So Mac OS X Lion goes on sale tonight, but before you suck down 3.6GB, consider doing it off-peak. And if you’re on iiNet — heads up that the Mac App Store is outside the Free Zone. So unlike iTunes songs and movies, Mac Apps (and Lion) count towards your quota. More at Lifehacker: Get Mac OS X Lion Without Exceeding Your Download Cap.

Why the attack on iiNet? Most ISPs dont include traffic to the app store. I figured that would be common knowledge.

      No attack, purely a PSA.

I think you’ll find the reason behind mentioning iiNet is because iiNet has unmetered access to iTunes….. I think you’ll find that gizmodo was simply pointing out that those who are of the assumption they will be able to download it unmetered that they should think twice so they don’t blow their quota….

Hence “And if you’re on iiNet — heads up that the Mac App Store is outside the Free Zone”

and “Did You Know: iiNet Free Zone Doesn’t Include The Mac App Store”

Seriously it’s not that expensive to have a 50 or 100 GB download limit so 4GB shouldn’t hurt that much. However I give Apple a HUGE thumbs down for not having a DVD or USB install option. Yeah they’ll let ya get it in there stores but what about all of us country bumpkins who are 3 + hours from them.

I’ve been downloading Lion Developer Previews from the App Store and it’s definitely been counting to my free zone. Someone might want to double check this.

You’ll find that since it’s all grabbed from an Akamai server some data is counted as freezone sometimes, and not so other times

The other day I downloaded a few gig of mac apps & updates and it was all freezone too, it’s luck of the draw but you can’t count on it always happening and iiNet reps have stated so on Whirlpool

Tonight? We know it’s tonight? I was expecting in the morning. Has Apple made a time related announcement?

Yeah, I can also confirm that downloading Lion last night (around midnight, well before my offpeak hours start at 2am) came out of my Freezone on iiNet. Looks like you might be wrong on this one Giz.

This article is completely wrong. I stayed up this morning, not even knowing that downloading Lion would count towards my
Freezone. If I only knew, I would’ve downloaded it the day it came out during peak hours and not off peak.
